1. Controller and contact
The controller responsible for the processing of personal data on knowlesta.com ("Knowlesta", "we", "us") is Nathan Edward Collins (Knowlesta), Oxford Road, Manchester M1 7ED, United Kingdom. The publisher’s full details are set out in our Imprint. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to info@knowlesta.com. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the law does not require one for an activity of this kind; privacy requests are handled by the editors directly.
2. The short version
- You can read every page without an account, a subscription or a payment.
- Our server keeps short-lived technical logs so that the site works and stays secure.
- One necessary cookie remembers your cookie choices. Nothing else is stored in your browser unless you agree to it.
- Analytics or advertising cookies, if we ever use them, are switched on only with your consent and can be switched off at any time.
- If you e-mail us, we use your message only to answer it.
- We never sell personal data and never share it with crypto companies.
3. Data we process
When you read the site
Every time a browser requests a page, our web server automatically records technical information: the IP address of the device, the date and time of the request, the address of the page requested and of the page you came from, the amount of data transferred, the HTTP status code, and the browser and operating system reported by your device. We cannot identify you from this information alone, and we do not try to.
Your cookie choices
When you make a choice in our cookie settings, a small necessary cookie records it, so that we do not ask you again on every page.
Analytics and advertising, only with consent
If we enable measurement or advertising tools, such as those provided by Google, and you agree to them, those tools process online identifiers stored in cookies, information about the pages you visit and how you arrived at the site, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Until you agree, these tools do not set cookies on your device.
When you write to us
If you send us an e-mail, we receive your e-mail address, your name if you give it, the content of your message and any attachments, together with the technical data that e-mail systems add.
We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive information such as health data, identity documents, bank details, passwords, private keys or recovery phrases.
4. Why we process data and on what legal basis
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering pages to your browser, keeping the site secure, detecting and blocking attacks and abuse | Server log data | Our legitimate interest in operating a secure website, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR / UK GDPR |
| Remembering your cookie choices | Consent cookie | Compliance with the consent requirements of e-privacy law, Art. 6(1)(c), and our legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) |
| Understanding how the site is used and measuring adverts for the site, if enabled | Cookie identifiers, usage data | Your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), which you may withdraw at any time |
| Answering questions, correction reports and privacy requests | E-mail address, message content | Our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us, Art. 6(1)(f); for privacy requests, our legal obligation, Art. 6(1)(c) |
| Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims, where necessary | Relevant records | Our legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your interests and rights. You can object to this processing at any time, as explained in section 10.
5. Cookies
We use one necessary cookie to store your cookie choices. Optional analytics and advertising cookies are loaded only after you accept them. Google tags, where present, run in a restricted consent mode until then and do not store advertising or analytics cookies. You can review or change your choice at any time through the "Cookie settings" link at the foot of every page. Our Cookie Policy lists the cookies by name, purpose and duration.
6. Who receives data
- Our hosting provider, which operates the server on which the site runs and processes log data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
- Our e-mail provider, which stores and delivers messages sent to our address.
- Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, only if analytics or advertising tools are enabled and you consent to them.
- Professional advisers and public authorities, where disclosure is required by law or necessary to defend legal claims.
We do not sell personal data, do not rent it out and do not pass it to crypto-asset businesses or data brokers.
7. Transfers outside the UK and the EEA
Some providers, including Google, may process data in the United States or other countries outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where this happens, transfers rely on an adequacy decision, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the UK extension to it, or on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK authorities, together with additional safeguards where needed.
8. How long we keep data
- Server logs: up to 30 days, after which they are deleted automatically, unless a specific security incident requires us to keep particular entries longer to investigate it.
- Consent cookie: 6 months, after which we ask for your choice again.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: as listed in our Cookie Policy, and only if you consented.
- E-mails: for as long as we need to deal with your message, and no longer than 12 months after the matter is closed, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
9. Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to the server and to the site’s administration is restricted to the people who need it and protected by strong authentication. Automated protection monitors log data and temporarily blocks addresses that repeatedly try to break in. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the small amount of data we hold.
10. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and, where it applies, the EU GDPR, you have the right to:
- ask whether we process data about you and obtain a copy of it (Art. 15);
- have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16);
- have data erased in the circumstances set out in the law (Art. 17);
- have processing restricted (Art. 18);
- receive data you provided to us in a portable format, where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means (Art. 20);
- object at any time to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21);
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, write to info@knowlesta.com. We may ask for information to confirm your identity before acting on a request. We answer within one month; in complex cases this may be extended by up to two further months, and we will tell you if so.
11. Complaints
If you believe we have handled your data unlawfully, we would be grateful for the chance to put it right first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live or work or where the alleged infringement took place. In the United Kingdom, the supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
12. Children
This website is intended for adult readers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly process their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please tell us and we will delete it.
13. No automated decision-making
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you.
14. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our website, the services we use or the law change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Where a change materially affects how we use data you have already given us, we will make that clear on this page.
